Clinical Research Center
Clinical and translational research are becoming increasingly dependent on collaborative networks. At CAML, an interdisciplinary interaction that takes advantage of the distinctive characteristics of each CAML Institution can boost an integrated and competitive clinical research.
CIC – Centro de Investigação Clínica (Clinical Research Center) – is a CAML flagship project that coordinates and facilitates all the operations involved in clinical and translational research, with a special emphasis on clinical trials. It is located at Hospital de Santa Maria and includes facilities for outpatient appointments, infusion room, human samples collection and is run by a dedicated team including study coordinators and management staff.
CIC has a dedicated space on the 7th floor of Hospital de Santa Maria, with facilities for outpatient appointments, infusion room, human samples collection, study coordinators and management staff.
A board of directors composed by the director and 2 vice-directors (the 3 combining the roles of FMUL professors, CHULN clinicians and coordinators of research units at iMM) is supported in the management of the facility by a hospital manager, a financial manager, an accounting executive and a technical coordinator.
CIC activities are run by 2 nurses, 1 nurse auxiliary, 1 secretary and 12 study coordinators. CIC coordinates and facilitates all the operations involved in clinical and translational research, with a special emphasis on clinical trials. The management aspects are fully managed at CIC and patients related activities can be also performed at CIC or directly at the department leading the specific trial or research project.
